Me and Dr. Ist
Location: Dr. Ist’s office.
Age: 5.
Weather: Sunny.
Guardian: Mom.
Current state of being: Without Mom.
Mom’s location: Outside of Dr. Ist’s office.
Dr. Ist: Hello, young man, welcome!
Gregory: Hello.
Dr. Ist: How are you?
Gregory: I’m okay, thank you.
Dr. Ist: I understand that this may seem unusual to you, but I promise it won’t feel so once we have got to know each other a little. What is your name?
Gregory: I’m Gregory.
Dr. Ist: Nice to meet you, Gregory. I’m Dr. Ist. I’ll be asking you some questions to get to know your world a little, okay?
Gregory: Okay.
Dr. Ist: Now, this is important for you to know. We may stop any time you want us to stop.
Gregory: Okay.
Dr. Ist: Do you have any questions for me?
Gregory: No.
Dr. Ist: Gregory, you can ask me anything you want.
Gregory: Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris?
Dr. Ist: Pardon me?
Gregory: Who will win? Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris?
Dr. Ist: Oh, you mean if they were to fight each other?
Gregory: Yes.
Dr. Ist: Well, I think it depends on which character they play. Lone Wolf McQuade’s Chuck Norris would kick The Big Boss’s Bruce Lee’s butt. However, Bruce Lee kicks Chuck Norris’s butt in The Way of the Dragon, and rightly so!
Gregory: I think Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris should never fight.
Dr. Ist: Why do you say that?
Gregory: Because they’re equal.
Dr. Ist: But how would they know if they’re equal without fighting each other?
Gregory: I don’t know.
Dr. Ist: Perhaps you’re right, Gregory. They shouldn’t fight. That way they will always be equal, right?
Gregory: Yes!
Dr. Ist: Good! I’m glad we’re on the same page on this.
Gregory: Same page?
Dr. Ist: It’s a phrase adults use when they want to indicate they’re in agreement with each other.
Gregory: Oh, okay.
Dr. Ist: Tell me about yourself a little.
Gregory: I’m five years old. I have a mom and dad. Um, I don’t like going to kindergarten. I want to stop going there.
Dr. Ist: Why do you wish to stop going to kindergarten?
Gregory: I don’t like many children. I like playing with my toy soldiers and cars. I make movies with them. Ninja movies. Hmm, I also like playing with my two best friends very much. They live upstairs.
Dr. Ist: What are their names?
Gregory: Emma and Zoe. I think I love Emma.
Dr. Ist: How do you love her, Gregory?
Gregory: I love her so, so much. Like the size of the clouds from the street, not from my window. Zoe sometimes hits me and ruins our games when Emma and me are playing with each other.
Dr. Ist: Mhm. Do you think maybe it’s because you guys don’t let her play with you?
Gregory: Hmm, maybe. But I like Zoe too. Not like Emma. But we play a lot too. Mom?!
Dr. Ist: Would you like me to call her in, Gregory?
Gregory: Yes.
Dr. Ist: I’ll go get her for you. Are we going to meet again soon?
Gregory: Okay.
Dr. Ist: Okay, see? This means we’re on the same page here as well. I’m glad that you’re willing to come back here.
Gregory: Okay.
Dr. Ist: Gregory, it was very nice meeting you. I hope to see you soon.
Gregory: Okay.
